I have not been to this forum for a few years, because I have been doing a lot better after therapy ended.



However, I have come to realize that I am, actually, not fully "healed" and fully like I used to be "before".



I think I was feeling that "this is probably as good as it gets" and tried to go on with life and my pursuing in life as well as I could.
I do feel I could do better though with an even healthier mind.



I am currently living abroad so I was wondering if anyone has done any EMDR treatment online?

Does it make sense?


I never had EMDR, just talk therapy.


I have read that actually PTSD is often not rightly diagnosed and even though I was diagnosed with it from one place of treatment, my therapist´s diagnosis was actually and adjustment disorder. Later on in therapy she told me she understood that trauma was an issue....


I do believe we need to be careful with treatment we receive because, not just because someone is licensed in psychotherapy, he will not automatically do a good job diagnosing and treating us...

Personally I would not do EMDR on-line. I did EMDR for a few years and it helped me immensely, but I found it also brought up a lot on unexpected emotions and reactions, that I needed my T's help to work my way through, before it was safe for me to leave the session. And a lot of how she guided the session was based on her observation of my reactions, including physical. I think that would be difficult on -line.

I think on-line would be fine for talk therapy though.

Hi Alishia - welcome back! I also drop in and out of here, and in and out of therapy even, as I feel the urge to. I totally agree with your thoughts on thinking you may be doing ok, but you can do better, be better - nothing wrong at all in us trying to continuously improve ourselves, mentally or otherwise! I also would not recommend online EMDR therapy, for the exact reasons splitimage said. Confession - I looked up some online EMDR modules, prior to actually doing them with my therapist. The online stuff helped me to understand what I would be doing with her....but on my own, wasn't helping me at all. It honestly caused me to look at EMDR as a bunch of nonsense. Then my therapist did it with me...and it was like magic. You mentioned living abroad, as to why you were considering the online therapy. I take it that it's not available in person, near you? Have you considered a different type of therapy, perhaps? Others here have mentioned using other trauma based therapies that have helped them. EMDR is not the ~only~ treatment. I personally think that the ~trauma based~ part is the real key to whether therapy will help with PTSD, so perhaps seek out a trauma based therapy other than EMDR would help?
