Yeah, I hear you on that.

I often didn't pick up the guitar or do anything creative for years due to trauma from past psychotic episodes. I would think it was just "too much" for me to handle to do anything remotely creative.

Of course, now I am just getting to the point where I can make things again, and it's been ten years since my first episode.

Really glad that seems to be turning around for you, WastingAsparagus.

Bp, you and Blanche are so strong. I truly marvel at your fighting spirit. I believe in you both, absolutely.
Music or any hobby/avocation can be so healing. Timing is everything. When the time is right, hopefully it can mean joy for you again BP.
I grew up in a time when they were big on the follow your dream approach. Please excuse me for thinking out loud here. I still have career choices to make. Luckily there is more than one way to embrace some of the glamor careers, not just in the stereotypical way. I loved to write but picked ad writing, which was WAY too competitive for me. I was very introverted when I started out.I could have taught English and had a very secure retirement very early on which would have allowed me to progress to other things later after teaching became underfunded and very stressful. Unlike my immature younger self, I know you two would talk to people in a chosen field to fine tune your choice. Here I am once again reminding my self to do the same. Some young people on the forum are struggling to find direction, so I am sharing this in large part for them. THE EXAMPLE OF COURAGE FROM BOTH OF YOU INSPIRES ME!

Some people think they are so enlightened about depression because so many celebrities talk about it,but they think everyone with certain disorders are a threat.NAMI could start a speakers bureau of people w mental illness going to schools to talk about their challenges and the amazing things they have done in their lives.
—I learned that in some cities nami does have this type of speakers bureau going into the schools. One of my pet peeves is that people think that clinical depression is like being sad because you might not pass a class. Totally different, more like walking through quicksand. Hopefully these speakers will explain these things.
