I start phase one of my trauma group this afternoon. I'm a bit nervous about it, as it's been a while since I've been in group therapy. And even though it's focus is skill building it's still trauma focused and that's scary.

I hope you get what you need from it. Exploring trauma is hard but can be rewarding too. I've found my IOP to be good even tho it's hard most days.

@splitimage

If you want to talk about it, I'd like to know how it went. You know I'll respect your choice on answering. xoxox

Hope things went well for you. A skills-based trauma group is part of my life now too,...and mine is very different from what I've done in the past, with a more standard group therapy. Still hard and yes, scary, at first...but getting easier. I hope it will for you too.

Thanks everyone for the support.

The first group was good. The format is review group guidelines, check in, educational piece, and then close with a piece of poetry.

The check in was a lot deeper and emotional than I'm used to. I could really relate to a lot of what the other women were saying, and it dragged up some unpleasant emotions for me.

I realized I'd maybe been a bit over confident going into the group, and that if I really let my guard down to experience my emotions, it could be tough. But I know I need to do that in order to process stuff. It's just a little scary.

I think I'm really going to benefit from the program, it's just going to be hard.
