memories that came to the surface yesterday..

I may have posted about these memories a long time ago, but:

yesterday while I was watching a tv show, I got triggered by it

Possible trigger:

in the show, 1 of the characters died in another character's arms

and that's happened to me

when I was in hospital for an attempt on my life, one of the other women on the ward died in my arms. I remember her reaching out to hold something to feel safe, and that thing was me.

she died their and then, and I didn't know much about her... I just knew her as rachel. we had some previous conversation but not much

it was just really hard watching that yesterday, bringing it all back

I felt so stupid, sitting their shaking and in bits over one of my favorite tv shows, but it was hard. it was really hard, not only to watch that but holding someone when they took their last breath

I can never forget that day

it's hard. really, really hard.

I am so sorry raging, I have experienced triggers like that myself where watching something or reading something or experiencing a negative exchange with someone brought up a trauma I have experienced in my past. I get the shakes too. Don't feel ashamed, it's what can happen when a reminder of a traumatic event happens.

Sorry about your ordeal. This is quite common when a trigger we experience brings back memories from long time ago. It happens to me a lot. I read something, watch the news, a scene in a movie, or a friend says something and the memory comes back and paralyses my mind. It is very difficult at times. I have worked with my therapist to make them manageable.
