Question Sep 08, 2020 at 11:00 PM
  #1

I've had a live-in boyfriend for 17 years. We don't marry because I receive alimony from my ex-husband, which would cut our combined salaries substantially.

What happened to us is just horrid!

He, fell down four steps outside at the entrance to our deck. I was inside, when this happened, so (at least), I did not see this happen. It was bad enough hearing him screaming when he landed on concrete. He is 80 years old and I knew, when I opened the door and found him on the ground that it was not going to be good. He was laying face down, so my immediate question was "where are you hurt", his answer, my hip! At that point I called 9-1-1, then made absolutely certain that he did not injure himself any further by moving. Luckily, my neighbor heard him screaming and came to help. I let him console my boyfriend, while I directed the F.D. in, as we live in a rural area, and we are hard to find. This occurred at about 10:30 at night.

It was "very" difficult for him to be placed on a soft transport to the guerny. He screamed as loud and hard as he possibly could.

This was a life changing moment for both of us. He is wheelchair bound, but he can walk a few steps I don't know "if" he will EVER be able to not have support of some kind while walking.

We were having "couple" problems before this happened. I was considering leaving the relationship and now I'm feeling extremely guilty.

The "trauma' of that night haunts me. By that, I mean that it just doesn't seem fair to have something like this happen to this man, who is so spiritual, kind, nurturing, loving and caring.

What is the best way for me to deal with this very Traumatic Happening?
