Can a sort of low level but constant paranoia be a part of PTSD?

Yes, apparently it can. I've never been diagnosed as having PTSD. But I'm quite certain I could make a good case for a diagnosis of cPTSD; and I experience what you've described. Technically, however, (at least as I understand it) what we're talking about may not actually be considered paranoia. It is instead, at least in some cases, referred to as "hypervigilance". Here are 3 links to 2 different websites that discuss PTSD, paranoia & hypervigilance:

It's more hypervigiliance than parinoia. It can feel the same but it's more about being stuck in high alert. It's exhausting which is why depression is also part of the ptsd challenge.

You can learn to manage the ptsd. Have you been taking any medications for it?

Great articles. I always thought I was paranoid until my doctor diagnosed me with PTSD. Now after reading these articles I realize I'm hypervigilant about finding impending danger around me. I always expect the worst thing to be around the corner. It's very exhausting. I can't thank you enough for these articles.
