Re: Couch 248: Curiouser and Curiouser

I don't think this is lining up. I completely understand the guy not wanting other people's stuff in his office. I agree with him on that. Even people I love don't get to decorate my house.
If you...

Re: Couch 248: Curiouser and Curiouser

I mean, I like to think that I can swim the channel or write a great a novel or enjoy a glass of wine without drinking a bottle or relax in other people's company. Doesn't mean that translates into...

Re: Couch 248: Curiouser and Curiouser

This is a good point. Maybe some of this is my suppressing needs for years to appease him and stay on his good side. And it's coming to a head with the fish, so to speak. Like a cresting wave in the...

Re: Couch 248: Curiouser and Curiouser

This is true. But there’s really only one sure solution: find a therapist you don’t feel you have to be small with.

Actually, beyond natural inclination, it may depend on the person you’re...

Re: Couch 248: Curiouser and Curiouser

Good point, Comrade.

The therapeutic relationship is hardly the space where one should make oneself smaller to acquiesce to the therapist's process.

Re: Couch 248: Curiouser and Curiouser

I think it's difficult to identify what is in the territory of an ultimatum and what is confirmation of incompatibility. X years don't always mean much if over that time you have been suppressing...

Re: How not to anger the locals

Oh lordy, I live in Florida where we are swarmed be tourists! I could probably rant on for pages about the annoying things them do.

First off, don't talk about how much better whatever is where...

Re: Couch 248: Curiouser and Curiouser

Why would you give your T an ultimatum? Do this one thing or else? Don't the past x years mean anything? I don't get it. Has he offered you an ultimatum? If he did, what would it be? YKWIM.

Re: Differences in mindset once you're not poor anymore

I'm a frugal person at heart, probably due to years of being broke.

Things I've noticed..

Buying something because I want it, but don't need it.

Willing to pay someone to do something...

Re: Weight Loss and Exercise #5

I've been finding YouTube videos showing seated exercises for seniors and/or beginners. I can do standing exercises as long as I have both feet on the ground. Anything that requires me lifiting one...

I have never heard of this syndrome before, but I have known old people who would fit this definition.

Differences in mindset once you're not poor anymore

For those who do struggle with poverty, I'm very sorry you're going through that. I have no advice, but I hope the best for you. Rest assured that although I am now middle class, I am not superior to...

Re: Couch 248: Curiouser and Curiouser

The fish itself isn't important, but what it represents is important. Similarly, the decision itself of whether he keeps it or whether you take it back isn't important, but your process around this...

Re: Couch 248: Curiouser and Curiouser

Hugs to you, @@.

I understand about leaving something like a cough drop in there. I could see keeping something like that, too. That's touching about the medal being there. So now you're...

Re: Couch 248: Curiouser and Curiouser

Yuck...

That's a horrible question in that context.

A gift from a client to a therapist isn't given with the expectation that it will definitely be put on display...but to insinuate that...

Re: Couch 248: Curiouser and Curiouser

It seems like the issue with the fish has brought up deeper feelings of insecurity and doubt in your relationship with Dr. T. To me it’s just about wanting to be a part of his space and to be thought...

The biggest thing we figured out was what triggered the...

Re: Couch 248: Curiouser and Curiouser

I think I get the wanting to have some part of you there. I don’t really feel that myself, with any place, but I feel that way about wanting to have some part of my mother with me always. (It’s the...

Re: Couch 248: Curiouser and Curiouser

This also reminds me of my own issue of trying to be small. For me, if I'm small enough, maybe then they'd accept me. I personally do this ALL the time.

Your smaller fish reminded me of that....

Re: Couch 248: Curiouser and Curiouser

Smile Re: It saddens me how ignorant people are about violence and PTSD

Yeah I honestly prefer African American gospel-like music over the boring white evangelical ballads. The former is a lot more lively and upbeat. I can totally understand why you feel that way. And...
