I had postpartum depression after both of my pregnancies. At my one year check-up, the NP I saw said that the post-partum depression was over. I switched drs (for a different reason), and my new dr says there's evidence showing that postpartum depression can last up to 3 years. Has anyone else heard this and/or experienced it?

my mom had postpartum depression. she had meds and a therapist to help her move out of it. The time varies for everyone. I know that she terminated therapy and meds very early and was difficult to deal with. I wish she had stayed with it longer.

I believe that PPD can trigger ongoing depression if it is not treated. Well at least that is my take on my personal situation. Unfortunately, I was on medication and went to therapy intermittently. It just hasn't been enough yet for a break through and my kids are 4 and almost 2. I was also redisposed prior to and other situations not related to pregnancy and children also have impacted me. I would encourage you to look at all aspects of your life and see if there is something that is not related that could be causing to distress.

Yes, this is the exact reason I was going through this site. My daughter is 4 now and I don't think my doctors treated my postpartum correctly and it developed into depression that I have been struggling with for a year now. I just don't know what to do!
