I was extremely irritable and agitated on Wellbutrin XL. I definitely did not feel like myself at all....it was a big change. I was on 300 mg. Reducing it to 150 mg made things more manageable (for a short period of time), so sometimes that can make all the difference for certain people. It also increased my anxiety level significantly, and eventually mania. Even for people who are not Bipolar, I do often hear the same complaints you've mentioned to be associated with Wellbutrin XL. This doesn't mean stressors can't be complicating your situation and contributing to the effects, but it could be the medication as well...so I think it's good to be aware of this, just in case.

I've been on Wellbutrin for a number of years. Mostly on 300mg. And only on XR.
I went to 450mg for a while, but I think it made me very angry and short-tempered. My cognitive functioning is terrible, but I don't know what to blame as I am on a number of meds. Funny that yesterday I started my period and I was a monster. I was working with horses and lost my cool. Ended up throwing things around (Not at horses nor people, but just out of pure frustration). I ended up being run over by a horse, kicked by another and fell off another (In all fairness, she was a horse that we had just backed, so she was nervous herself). I ended up taking an Ativan halfway through the afternoon. I haven't seen myself in such a state in a long time. I don't know if it is Wellbutrin related as such. I am not usually so affected by PMS, so I also don't want to blame that alone. __________________ "I'd rather attempt to do something great and fail than to attempt to do nothing and succeed. I had a horrific allergic reaction 30 days into taking wellbutrin which was a real shame as it was helping me quit smoking and making me more motivated. My pdoc said it was probably due to a filler in the off brand bupropion. Keep an eye out for itching, mine started on my legs and eventually I was covered, unable to breathe, spent 2 days in the hospital begging for a cigarette lol.

I'm on 75mg bid, and was wondering about the 150 XL. The 75 mg twice a day works rather well, I'm feeling good and charged up until, about eight at night. Then I'm tired. And sleepy, which is Ok. I take it
at 630 and at 130. Seems to work just right. I was on celexa for about 9 months and the sex drive quit, and I got fat. No matter how hard I worked out I stayed the same. I would cardio 6 days a week and no loss. The first couple of weeks on Wellbutrin I lost 8 lbs. I've tried other stuff, celexa, trazdone, elavil. All with issues. The Wellbutrin so far is ok. Anybody think the 150 XL will have the same effect.? Last edited by Mike R; Aug 23, 2016 at 12:15 AM.. |
