My psychiatrist told me that it's safe to quit my 3mg of Invega that I've been taking for depression for two years without tapering off. Just cold turkey. This to me seems absolutely insane, but she kept assuring me that there would be no issues. Has anyone here had any success quitting this medication cold turkey, or ANY psychiatric med for that matter?

Hi, BleedTheFreak, and welcome to Psych Central! I haven't taken Invega, but I'd be suspicious, too. I've had bad withdrawal even from tapering from drugs my doc told me to go off "cold turkey."
How about looking up "withdrawal from Invega" on the Internet to see? (I'll research it, too.) Here's some info: http://schizophrenia.emedtv.com/inve...ithdrawal.html Cold turkey from Invega could be bad it seems, but not if you are being switched to another med. |

I'm suspicious too. I was on 50 mg Zoloft (25 mg is starting dose) and when I went off it my doctor had me go to 25 mg for a week before going off it. I don't know if Invega is a capsule or a pill but if it's a pill I'd consider cutting it in half for starters.

I think 3 mg of invega is a very low dose so I'm wondering if that would make the withdrawal easier.
