Hi all,
I am being treated for OCD, which heavily involves intrusive thoughts and I do also battle impulsivity, which may or may not be related to that diagnosis or something else. Nevertheless, is there a medication that has some degree of usefulness is curbing the impulsive actions? My current meds are listed below, but I will list the dosages as well, as maybe an increase in dosage may help? - Lithium 400 mg bd - Setraline 200 mg - Fluanxol 0.5 mg - Quetiapine 50 mg __________________ Tic-Tac |

based on your meds list I’m quessing you’ve already discussed adhd and stimulant meds. That was my godsend to control all my hyper / impulsive actions.

hi. the zoloft is at a dose that helps many people with ocd, when an ssri is helpful (which isn't always the case...).
have you ever tried ritalin or focalin? looking back, I think those were better for me than amphetamines. id personally recommend some kind of sustained release/all day formulation, but that is up to the shrink, of course. has your shrink ever talked about choosing one tranquilizer? i mean, either the seroquel or the flupentixol? not trying to nit pick, but ive always had better results with 1 tranquilizer at a time, now and then with a low dose additional one as needed, than taking 2 together. reduces costs, drug-drug interactions, etc. some ocd people do well with benzodiazepines. i dont think its the best idea, long term, but probably fairly benign on an as needed basis, anyway. hope this helps. |

Thank you for the replies;
Zoloft certainly helps with OCD. It has helped tremendously. I did try Ritalin once but I think that anxiety played a huge role in the inattention as well. Perhaps something to try once more? Well the thing with the tranquilizers is that I could probably do without one or the other except for the fact that each help; The Seroquel does help me sleep. Without it, I wake up in the middle of the night and struggle to fall asleep. The Fluanxol has a role in depression and anxiety management. Particularly depressed thoughts and body dysmorphia. (In other cases, the dosage is much higher and used for psychosis) If one had to pick... I would rather have both for now as I am not experiencing TD or anything like that and discuss other options in the meantime. I do make occasional use of Valium. __________________ Tic-Tac |
