How do those extended release (XR) capsules work? The ones with the little beads in them.
Adderall XR, Effexor XR. Those are the two I can think of. Thanks. Just very curious. __________________ Tic-Tac |

They release a consistent am out of medication over time so hopefully you only need it once a day instead of two or three.

Interesting question. Not all capsules are XR which I find interesting too.

I've a (possibly cynical) feeling that XR ia also used as a technique to extend patent rights when the regular product is going to become available for generic manufacturers. BTW, those beads are designed to dissolve in the stomach at different rates, giving the extended dosage release. |

Funny story..sort of I am on 600 mg of Effexor xr. I had a colonoscopy done and they found those little beads all over my colon. Now I have to go for a colonoscopy every 5 years instead of 10.....

Wow, what a whopping dose of Effexor Dr. My pdoc told me 300mg was the highest he would go, that 300 mg was the highest safe dose. I can see why the doc saw all those little beads!

600 mg, wow. 75 mg caused me to have a rapid heartbeat and they decided to take me off it completely.

I have been on the 600 mg dose for the past 20 years. When I had to switch pdocs after 15 years he kept me on the dose because I seem to tolerate it well...which I do. I do know it is a large dose:-) but it works for me.
I also take: Clozaril 75 mg Welbutrin. 450 mg Abilify 15 mg Klonopin 1mg Synthyroid 150 mcg. I still function well and hold down a full-time job. I'm a lucky person. But watch those colonoscopies:-))). |
