I got off them about 15 years ago. I think I tapered off slowly. I took them for about two years then tapered and stopped them. I never took them again because of the effect on my short-term memory. I was going to college at the time and taking exams was a chore, I remember.

I have been on various benzos (Ativan, Klonopin, Xanax, Valium) trying each to see how I do. Some did not last long enough while others hit me hard.

I never really had problems just stopping them, but I think that is because I used them on a very much prn basis.

I used them for years. Have co e of daily use of a benzodiazepines and a load of Ambien in the last eight months. I did the benzodiazepines first and did a very slow taper with diazepam. Look up Dame Heather Ashton. She has done a great deal of work in this area and I found coming g off benzos pretty painless using her method. To get off my 20 mg of Ambien I had to again do a benzo taper whih was a bit of an experiment to get off the Ambien but I worked for me. See my thread " trying to get off ambien" for more info

Now I like it myself to twice a week and have not even for that. I really think about it I really need it

Yeah that's what she is going to use to get me off 2 mgs of lorazepam that I take for sleep. I'm worried insomnia will come back. So glad you were finally able to get off ambien! Well done!

I only took klonopin prn for a bit, so I didn't have trouble coming off it. I have a friend who was on them for years. She had to go inpatient for a couple of weeks, but she was able to get off them.

I've been on benzos since 1986. Sometimes they were tapered and sometimes they weren't but I never had a problem. I could stop klonopin cold turkey, no problem. I've never been on huge doses except for my ativan (6 mg) now. My klonopin never got over 3 mg/day.

I was once on tons of em, I quit on my own, just took less often and less until I ran out and didn't refil the script. Not the big problem that it's made out to be.

I was on 300 mg of klonopin a day several years ago and now just take Xanax when I feel I need it. I did a slow taper.

You couldn't have been on 300 mgs. Maybe 3. 300 mgs would kill you, lol.

I’m on Ativan. I usually only take one or two a month. I don’t like the way my doctors make me feel when I ask for more. So I only take them when absolutely necessary.

But I could probably come off it successfully.

I've been on Klonopin for over 20 years. Three times I have tried to come off it. The last time I took a full year to completely stop taking it. Went so slowly. Two weeks after stopping the K-pin I crashed horribly. Unbearable anxiety, bizarre sleep (being asleep but feeling awake...kind-of an awareness of being asleep...awful sensation). Back on the K-pin, 2 mgs. day. Pdoc mentions me coming off of it and using meditation to cope with withdrawal. I feel like slicing her with a knife when she says that, it's so stupid.

Truly everyone is different. Personally I had a much harder time quoting ADs cause of the brain zaps.

Not 300mg? Oh, well. Whatever it was, I know it was considered a high dosage.
