Just wondering if anyone had menstrual or hormone issues with Lamictal? I am having painful cramps/bloating like I will get my period but I just finished it. I do have endometriosis, but my pain with that and my periods has been consistent for quite awhile even during extreme stress, poor sleep etc. In fact, my period that I just had was less painful than what I am experiencing after increasing the dose. This is definitely not consistent with where I should be in my cycle. The gynecologist said there are no studies on this, but I did see menstrual irregularities listed as an infrequent side effect. I suppose it could be unrelated, but it is bad enough I might have to try discontinuing it if it continues. Anyone else? Thanks.

I used to be on Depakote which is in the same drug class as Lamictal and developed terrible menstrual issues. I switched to Lamictal and things improved but I still have issues sometimes. For example when I was upped from 75 mg to 100 mg my period was lighter in color and a different flow. So yes, it can. Not sure what would be a good replacement that wouldn't cause that, it depends why exactly you are taking Lamictal. If for depression switching to an SSRI or SNRI may be better.

Thanks! Yeah I will have to talk to my pdoc if this persists about options. Good to know I am not alone in this. Unfortunately I am on Lamictal because an SSRI put me in a mixed/hypomanic state so no more antidepressants for me per my pdoc. The Lexapro actually helped my period pain and chronic joint pain I have which was really nice, though.
