I took 20mg Vyvanse at 1pm yesterday and at 7pm, my heart beats normal (Slower). I'm very sensitive to stimulants now. The same thing happened today because it's 7pm and my heart rate is 90bpm (Instead of 100-110bpm). The Vyvanse kicks in in about 40 minutes.

Is it because of the peak? Something like that?

Would Dexedrine 5mg 2-3x a day be a better option until I build tolerance to the side effects and increase a small bit to get the benefit of the therapeutic effects?

I don't think I'll take the Vyvanse tomorrow and see what happens.. To see how tired and unfocused I am..

Any insight into this please reply..

sorry about this. if you want to keep trying the uppers, I think they still make the old school Dexedrine Spansules and some all day (not vyvnase) Dexedrine. The spansules I think are a 2x daily thing, I could be wrong.

maybe change out the tranquilizer/antipsychotic? risperidone, invega...are on the more mind numbing end of the atypicals. or...

i dont know your medical coverage situation, but some people do well on Provigil or Nuvigil. I don't know the difference between the two. Both are expensive where I live, but they're (apparently) not as harsh or euphoric as the older stimulants. Downside is they seem to have some strange potential adverse effects and I think drug-drug interactions can be more of an issue.

could you work with the shrink to maybe reduce the tranquilizer dosage a bit? over time, some bigger studies seem to indicate that lower doses might actually be better for overall functioning.

and of course...have you tried Focalin? It is basically cleaned up Ritalin, but I did better with it than I did with Ritalin. Not really sure why...

I haven't taken the Vyvanse in a week. I seem to be doing pretty ok. Just focus is bad.

I think I'll just stop taking stimulants completely or try Modafinil. I'll take that advice and see if I can lower the Invega but I also want something for anxiety..

Suggestion: Take the Vyvanse earlier in the day. Vyvanse can last quite a while (I've gotten 13 hours out of it) so taking it at 1pm is probably just too late in the day.

I take 70mg of Vyvanse whenever I wake up and it takes 40 minutes to an hour to kick in. I will say that I have a self-set rule that if I don't take it by 10am that I won't take it that day otherwise I'll struggle to fall asleep that night.

I was given Vyvanse because it supposedly gets absorbed in the intestines instead of the liver (like most meds) but I've heard arguments agreeing and disagreeing with this so I don't know if it's true or not.

Personally, I love my Vyvanse and can't stop praising it.

I used to take Vyvanse but I could never control when it would “kick in”. The delayed release isn’t a perfect science and therefore I could feel it in an hour or 4 hours later. Tried taking with/without food but that didn’t help. I just gave up on it and switched back to Adderall.

Good luck with it.

I agree. I take vyvanse as soon as I get up, so like 6 Am or so. If I take it any later than 9 AM, I can't sleep that night. I like how it works though. It's made a big difference for me.

Thanks for the insight everyone.

I went on fluoxetine 20mg in the morning and lorazepam 1mg PRN for anxiety. The fluoxetine seems to be working quick for anxiety and heart rate but it makes me feel numb. I don't really need the lorazepam anymore.

I'll give the Vyvanse 20mg a try at 9am in the morning because these past few months I've been getting up at around 2pm.

Actually I'll wait a bit longer for the fluoxetine to work more. I'm too impatient..

I plan to do some exercising to lower my resting heart rate. I'm still afraid of exercise even though I don't need to lose weight.

continue taking the SSRI it may reduce anxiety side effect from stimulant.
consider adding guanfacine it may reduce anxiety side effect from stimulent
continue taking ativan but only in the PM as mixing benzos with stimulents not ideal

I'm in the know on this one. I took vyvanse for years without a problem. than i developed anxiety and couldnt tolerate tiny doses of stimulent. it wasnt until i got on ssri guanfacine and stimulent was i able to tolerate it again. if your choosing to take benzo and stimulent make sure your making strides forward economically speaking in life, because it's not worth it unless your using it to improve your environment

I'm on a beta blocker now (Atenolol) and now my heart rate is 70-80bpm even when I stand up. It blocks my physical symptoms of anxiety.

I'm not sure if the doctor would even allow a stimulant but I'll see in the future if I can take a ritalin when I need to study in when I'm in school.

I seem to have a lot of adrenaline in me now so I don't get tired anymore. Very weird how it all changed but the atenolol has been a life saver for me..

Is it possible to not be anxious anymore to the point where stimulants can be used again? Has that ever happened with anyone?

I asked the pharmacist about asking my doctor or psychiatrist if I can take a low dose of Dexedrine 5mg 2-3x a day with my atenolol because it doesn't last as long as Vyvanse and I'll have more control over my dosing and she said that it's not dumb idea to bring it up.

Apparently some people take beta blockers with their Adderall or something like that to take the edge off so I don't think it's a big deal.

Any insight on this?

Do you think Vyvanse 50 mg and Lexepro 10mg could cause Seretonin Syndrome? I do not have ADHD, but I occasionally take Vyvanse for nights when I am on call non stop and need to be sharp. Never know if I should skip Lexepro, which I take for OCD.

It's a possibility that it could cause serotonin syndrome but it's very unlikely.

Don't skip the Lexapro. Take it every day or it won't work.

I don't take an SSRI anymore for OCD because a high psychedelic dose cured most of it.
