I have a terrible time remembering things like instructions from a supervisor and also retaining information of something that was said to me just moments ago. I forget things a lot and often lose things.
In social situations I am also deep in my own thoughts rather then engaging in conversation. This is all due to my ADHD. I have tried almost every type of stimulant medication for ADHD and they did not help. They seemed to only make me angry. One of a few ADHD medications that was somewhat helpful was Clonidine helped with impulsiveness and distractablity in conversations. Clonidine is not a stimulate however. Has anyone had any success with any other medications that are not stimulants to help there ADHD problems like forgetfulness and retaining info and instructions? Atomoxetine is one that is on the rise.
It is not a stimulant, but rather a norepinephrine reputake inhibitor, which as the name suggests, inhibits the reuptake of norepinephrine, which is basically a natural stimulant. __________________ Tic-Tac |

Atomoxetine=Strattera correct? as an SNRI basically its similar to Cymbalta I assume? if so I can't take it as it stirs up my mania. Any anti depressant, SSRI or SNRI will stir up my mania and racing thoughts and make them worse. I also tried Strattera once and I believe it mad me angry or have angry thoughts. |

It probably be best to ask your pdoc. My son (24) and daughter (12) both have ADHD. They both did well on Focalin XR however it’s a stimulant.

Interestingly enough my son took Guanfacine (Tenex, Intunive) for many years to help with tics. I recall something about it also being used as a non-stim treatment for ADHD. If I'm not mistaken, its primary raison d'être was for hypertension and I think it may be in the same class as Clonidine, that you'd mentioned. In any advent, what Cocosurviving said - ask your PDoc! __________________

mirapex? I've been thinking about maybe asking my shrink about it...maybe. Its been studied (off label, of course) in depression and "negative sympoms" in more severe psych problems, with good results. Its FDA approved use is in dementia I think. Oddly, it seems to get great results in psych patients, but the neurology patients...blah. not knocking it, but its defnitely not a panacea.
anyway...provigil, nuvigil. they're stimulants, but they're milder, less euphoria, less risk of addiction....approved for narcolepsy and some other stuff. problem there might be insurance coverage. |

Ja, funny, I'd come across - I think it was a mother's group for ADHD kids - complaining about increases in anger after being on Tenex (Intuive/Guan) while I was researching possible causes for DS' anger. It was the only time I'd come across anything on the subject, so I dismissed it. Obviously didn't probe deep enough. |
