My pdoc wants to put me on Seroquel after experiencing worsening TD on Risperdal (which was helping me by the way) I am afraid of taking Seroquel due to side effects. Has anyone here made this switch, which drug helped you the most despite side effects?

I took Seroquel for over a year. I did fine on it except my md.prescribed , and he had me on to high of s dose do I became a Zombie. Total flat affect. It help me through my manica phase, and my hopeless depression. I was taking I think 800 mg a day though. I think that's s pretty high dose.

I too recently switched from Risperidone to Seroquel. I was on a low dose of Risperidone. My PDoc might have thought that it is better to switch to Seroquel for a higher dose than increasing the Risperidone. I'm doing much better on Seroquel. My head is clearer now.

Thank you for telling me your experience, I hope it helps me as well. I am afraid that it can cause flat affect as I am dealing with that now on Risperdone. I hate that feeling

Glad to hear you’re doing better on Seroquel. The Risperidone helped me with the voices but the side effects are terrible. Hope I don’t run into too many with Seroquel. Do you have any side effects now?

I hope that you do well on Seroquel, and that you do not have flat affect. Just make sure you journal any side effects.

I haven't been on Seroquel, but I would advise you not to look into side effects too much before starting the medication. I made the mistake of doing that and wouldn't take meds that could help me. I was afraid to take Abilify for months because someone told me about tardive dyskinesia. When I finally took it, I immediately felt better and did not experience any side effects. Not everyone gets the bad side effects. You never know what works for your body until you try it.

As per the side effects, I feel thirsty too often. there is a mild tired feeling which is not so bad. There is a mild headache in the beginning, but now it is gone. I have a slight numb feeling all over the body; which is not uncomfortable in any way.

All of these are well worth the mental stability and clarity I have with Seroquel.

The biggest issue I have is that I thrash around in sleep. Last night I have punched my wife in sleep and I feel very bad about that now.

not a big fan of seroquel personally, -but-

-some- cases of TD get better after a switch to Seroquel. it can get the job done w/o making TD worse and/or triggering as much in the way of twitches, akathisia, etc. as the other tranquilizers. some people find it helps some forms of depression, too.

antioxidants helped me get rid of my TD. I found the "secret" (it really isn't a secret, hence the " ") was to use high doses and multiple antioxidants for a long time, plus keep my psych drugs as minimal as possible (tranquilizer, 1 mood drug). oh, and not smoking. oddly, that helped, too...

Thanks for the info, still_crazy. After some research bottom line is there is no guarantee that Seroquel won’t have TD symptoms as well so I don’t know what I’m going to do. I am definitely going to look into antioxidants and see what they are all about. I just want to get rid of the TD and still be treated for my psychosis.

My new pdoc just made this switch fr risperdal to seroquel after i feedbacked to her that risperidone made me emotionally dull, flat, apathetic and also slowed down my emotional responses. I dont understand her decision to put me back on quetiapine since it didnt quite work out last time and she still insist on it. I have tried majority of the antipsychotics which barely worked on me, but now, with a new pdoc, she wants me to start from square one.

I'm now about to start on 100mg. Wont be surprised if i still get the same effect as risperidone or worst.

sorry. on the plus side, there's less akathisia and fewer twitches, etc. (in large groups) with seroquel than with risperidone.

have you tried abilify or rexulti? if you really -need- a tranquilizer, id recommend trying abiify. i take a full dose, and its not nearly as bad as risperidone was, for me.
