Hi
I been on seroqel for a while now maybe a little over a year okay it helped me sleep in the pass but now its fading away i feel like i am have troubling getting to sleep. sometimes a little as 30 mins but i do take mirtazapine and clonazepam with it. been on all of these medication for a while i do see my doctor at the end of next month so i guess i will be asking for a change. what is the diffrent between zyprexa and seroqel? |

I haven't personally taken Zyprexa but my doctor told me its worse than Seroquel for weight gain. As far as differences in benefits between the two drugs I'm not sure.

seroquel is low potency. it could easily take 400mgs to get the job done...zyprexa is higher potency, so it might only take 15 or 20mgs.
zyprexa can cause weight gain and diabetes, plus all the usual stuff with tranquilizers (depression, tardive dyskinesia, twitches, etc.). seroquel has a low rate of akathisia and muscle twitches, but it can still cause tardive dyskinesia. |

Which makes sense in a way, as it's been described to me before as (pharmacologically speaking) the "most typical of the atypicals." |

I loved zyprexa it was less sedating than seroquel for me. The only bad side effect is it made me want to eat my couch.

I found Zyprexa to be less sedating. Seroquel caused me to feel this extremely heavy tiredness in the morning.
Seroquel is actually supposed to be more sedating at lower dosages. My doctor explained the paradoxical effect, and I am not certain I'd do the explanation any justice, but lower dosages act as an antihistamine instead of an antipsychotic/mood stabilizer. It can however take between 5 and 15 mg of Zyprexa to induce that sedating effect. As above mentioned, Zyprexa is known to be very much linked to weight gain. I did not experience this though. (I actually found that shortly after drinking Seroquel, my appetite skyrocketed and I ate everything I could get my hands on. This was just my experience) __________________ Tic-Tac |

Zyprexa made me gain 20 pounds in a month. That being said however, it was a great antipsycotic it really helped with the auditory hallucinations. Seroquel on the other hand was much more sedating in my opinion. I take it now for sleep. It’s not as strong of an antipsychotic as Zyprexa I’ve been told.
