I am diagnosed with bipolar disorder. This season has been really rough as far as depression and severe anxiety. I have been on just about every SSRI in the past, they used to ease depression/anxiety. In the past few years I have experienced horrible autumn & winter seasons. My pdoc is firm in her belief that I have SAD. She has prescribed Pristique. We started out with 25mg. and yesterday she increased the dose to 50mg.

It seems that I've heard quite a bit about the medication (ads and such). I don't think I know anyone who takes Pristique, though. I'm curious to know if anyone has experience with it?

Pristique must not be prescribed to many people. I don't recall anyone IRL who is taking it and so far, no one here. I wonder why it isn't more commonly prescribed?

I’ve been on it since January, 25 mg. It’s the only medication that made an immediate noticeable difference (prescribed for depression/anxiety). I had a mega-headache at first but it went away the second day.

It’s very similar to SSRI’S However it works better for some so I wish you luck with it.

when a former psych and I were discussing antidepressant options, she nixed Pristique. She prefers to prescribe Effexor, because she said the wide dosage range helps her find the "sweet spot" for each patient. I could see how other doctors might jump on easy dosing guidelines, especially busy psychiatrists and family doctors.

I've heard tapering can be rough, just like with effexor and cymbalta. Other than that...I hope it works well for you. good luck.
