I was only on olanzapine (Zyprexa) for a short time, but it was highly effective at extinguishing my mania with mixed features. I remember feeling really good and balanced fast, mood-wise. I mostly took it during a psych hospitalization. I did experience weight gain, as many do, and recall having some mild akathisia, but I don't recall any other notable side effects. I have heard of people who don't experience weight gain or akathisia from this medication.

It was very effective for me..I had to come off of it because it was raising my blood sugars.

i was on other psych drugs at the time, and younger, but...

very low dose was awesome, once it was raised to 5 or so, i started having obvious akathisia, so i was switched to something else, promptly. :-(

some people have low dose olanazapine to take just as needed, on top of whatever else...it really can be helpful for as-needed tranquilization.
