So to recap my med journey really quick:
My new doctor (an internal medicine specialist, not psychiatrist) had to actually search up the best non-SSRI antidepressant options for a young adult with bipolar. My therapist suggested just raising my prozac dose, but this doctor immediately took me off as he mostly refuses to allow bipolar patients to take SSRIs. My PCP both officially diagnosed my rapid cycling BP 2 and started the prozac + seroquel. She felt it was working well, but my new doc did not! I feel like we're just playing a guessing game at this point, like we're ticking off options on a list one by one. I know it takes some people years to find the right medications, especially for bipolar disorder, but I can't help feeling a little frustrated. Am I just being impatient, or is this not a normal occurance? I'm not sure how to navigate this with my doctors, and my therapist actually recommended I go to a psychiatrist over an hour away, or find one out of my main network that takes my insurance. She doesn't seem to have a lot of faith in my docs, and as she put it: "I think we can do better." __________________ Control what you can | Confront what you can't.

Could you go to the pdoc an hour away just to get on the right meds then have the internal medicine doc manage them? That's where my brain went at least... I understand it's a long drive for a single appointment, but finding the right meds could make your life a lot easier and I can hear how frustrated you are with the way the med search is going so far. Pdocs are better with knowing psych meds than regular docs which is why I am thinking like that. Just a thought tho...

I'm also going through a lot of medication changes right now. I don't have much advice, but just know you're not alone in this. Stay strong, and I hope you find something that works for you soon!

be careful who you listen to. i know, sounds kinda paranoid, but....sometimes, when a "professional" refers you to their "preferred psychiatrist," or hospital, or even programs...they get a kick back. or it helps them score brownie points so they can score more patients, too, or possibly change jobs...like going from working in office A to working for a group of psychiatrists, with a steady stream of patients and income. be -especially- careful if you have really good insurance, because they'll definitely lead you down the prim rose path.
