How do intrmuscular injections work on your body getting the right dose of meds a day?
Also on oral non extended release psych meds when you take your dose at night or in the morning does due larger amount enter your bloodstream in that first hour or so you take the med then it gets less potent as the hours go by until you take it again? |

heres what I mean... when you take oral medication it goes from mouth to stomach then to intestines then the villi in the intestines pick up whats been digested and sends it to the bloodsteam where it travels through out the body to where it needs to go. with intramuscular injections it skips right over the mouth / swallowing, skips the stomach, skips then intestines and goes directly to the bloodstream. the injections are prescribed in dosages just like taking pills a doctor prescribes the dosages. as long as you are honest with your doctors and working with your doctors you will have the correct dosages needed for your problems. no on the extended release pills . extended release means that only the right amount is released in your body at one time. medications have a "half life" which means half the dosage is gone out of your body every 2, 4, 12, or 24 hours depending upon what meds it is. the extended release counters that half life by releasing more meds. think of it like a leaky glass of water under faucet. As water is leaking out the hole the tap is dripping more water into the glass at a rate that is keeping the same amount of water in the glass at all times. extended release pills make sure the same amount of meds stays in the body at all times, giving more stability and less side effects. edit... I misread your post. you were asking about non extended release...not the other way around. sorry. non extended release meds yes they have a "half life" which is why doctors tell you to take them at the same time day or night. does the potency build up, sure but its not something that happens right away. psych meds build up over time. think of it like an apple. you eat the apple, what nutrients your body needs stays in your body and the rest gets "flushed" when you do your bathroom routine. psych meds build in your body until its at the right amount you need then the excess is "flushed" just like anything else.. in your bathroom routine. my suggestion is contact your treatment provider, they will explain how what ever meds they have you on works in your body. as long as you are honest and work with your treatment providers you will not have to worry about under dosages and over dosages as long as you take your meds as prescribed and how its prescribed.
