I am having terrible anxiety and paranoia. But besides that I am not having any symptoms. My moods are fine. I’m not cranky or anything because of the anxiety. I’ve just been very quiet lately. It’s not affecting me at work. I can get to and stay at work fine and function at work just fine. It’s just this anxiety is so bad I feel like I am going to die. I tried going up on my Geodon and the hunger side effect was too bad. I refuse to gain weight from meds. I am on lamictal 200 milligrams. I see my doctor on Monday. I’m thinking of asking him to raise it. Did anyone notice a decrease in anxiety after going up on their lamictal? I’m also on Xanax twice a day but I try to only take 1 a day. Is there anything else that’s good solely for anxiety and paranoia that doesn’t cause any sort of weight gain?

the thing about benzos is you take them until you realize you don't need them anymore. sometimes the sum total of anxiety for any given year is more on benzos than off benzos. gaba receptor interference every day with a short acting benzo may cause some of the anxiety. might consider clonazepam and titrate down that way? i think your problem is gaba related and not dopamine related. paranoia isn't necessarily always a dopamine issue. paranoia may be partially due to dopamine in your case, but it's not always solely dopamine.

suggestions at the health food store:

magnessium citrate
ashwagandha
turmeric and black pepper extract
fresh ginger juice
loose leaf chamomile and lemongrass calming,

heavier things to consider
benadryl, kava kava, cbd, melatonin

for me, my digestive health is linked to my anxiety. it might be different for you. try to identify what the source of the anxiety is. is it dopamine or is it serotonin or is it gaba

i take an 'atypical.' my psychiatrist put me on a standard dose of prozac. i now find that my paranoia has largely subsided. i don't know what this means in terms of diagnosis....some bipolar I-labeled people are prone to psychotic depression. maybe that's it? at any rate...

there -are- options outside of handfuls of antipsychotics. benzodiazepines...i would not think of as a long term solution, honestly. not everyone has a benzodiazepine hell on earth story, but plenty of people do...its more common (the bad stories) with high potency drugs and long term use, it seems. :-(

My doctor raised my lamictal up to 225 on Monday. I guess it’s still too early to tell. Anxiety wise It doesn’t seem as bad. Paranoia is still pretty bad. Only when I leave the house though. As for side effects it seems to have the opposite effect the higher dose of Geodon had. My hunger is down the garbage and I can barely eat. I’d rather have that side effect than increased hunger though. He referred me to a sleep specialist since he thinks my sleep issues are the main cause of my problems.

I was having pretty bad anxiety and paranoia when I first sought treatment years ago. Anti-D's, and benzo's kind of handled it, but didn't totally handle the paranoia. My pdoc put me on low dose risperidone, and that totally handled it.

I’ve been having these horrible vivid nightmares since Friday night. Last night was horrible. I had at least 4. I woke up unable to go to work because of how stressed I was mentally from the nightmares, and how sick I physically felt from not sleeping enough. I just put two and two together and the raise in lamictal might very well be the cause of the nightmares. I know other people who get vivid nightmares from it as well. I’ve had sleep issue since I was 13 but when I went to 200 milligrams in 2015 that’s when the real intense stuff happened. It seems to be working for my anxiety during the day. But these last 2 nights have been horrible. I wonder if I should call my doctor.

My reaction was just too bad and getting worse. I left work early and called my therapist who told me I must be feeling like this because of the lamictal since it started on Saturday and I was fine before that. I then called my doctor and he told me to go back to my lower dose.
