Has anyone had experience with weight loss on lamictal after going over 200 milligrams? My doctor was kind of hesitant but he put me on 225 yesterday. I just took the higher dose tonight. He said something about how he knew not gaining weight was a big deal to me but he kind of wished I had stuck to the higher dose of the Geodon. Which was making me ravenous. I read that lamictal can cause weight loss in some people. So far with the 225 my appetite is dead and I’m wondering if weight loss will be the case for me. And if he was so hesitant and kept saying “I’ll raise it just a bit,” because that could possibly happen. I don’t have an eating disorder or anything I’m just particular about my weight.

I think I took more than that and didn't notice any weight loss. I hope it works for you, though.

it does seem to be suppressing my appetite pretty decently. I struggled to get to 1,140 calories today. And 340 of that was in sodas. I think it’s the lamictal because I didn’t want Denny’s or McDonald’s today and it’s unusual for me to turn down that stuff. I hope my doctor and therapist don’t freak over this. I guess it’s working for my anxiety but it may take a couple more doses to see if it actually does.

I didn’t notice weight loss or gain but it helped reduce emotional food cravings which was helpful for maintaining my weight.

I've been on 400 mg for a long time, but I do remember a time when I was only on 200mg daily. I noticed that it did suppress my appetite and caused a bit of weight loss in the beginning. Also, it seemed to have counteracted the significant chance of weight gain that Seroquel/antipsychotics potentially cause, so overall, my weight has remained neutral. I'm on the thin side.
Therefore, it makes sense that it could cause weight loss in certain people, especially if you are not on any other meds where weight gain is listed as a major side effect. It doesn't seem to be listed as one of the meds that cause a lot of weight gain, so it should be more on the neutral side. Everyone is different though. __________________ Bipolar 1 Disorder, Unspecified Anxiety Disorder |

It was kind of weird. It suppressed my appetite for like 3 days but the scale wasn’t budging despite eating pretty low cal. Then my weight randomly went up almost 2 pounds for no reason. Then the whole thing just went haywire and I was eating everything in site and ended up putting on 6 pounds in just a few days. My body is so weird when it comes to meds. It’s like I can only be on what I am currently on and nothing more and nothing less. So far my appetite has been manageable with my old dose. The higher dose was causing some scary anxiety which was the main reason I went back down.

I have talked to my pdoc. about it and he says overall it is pretty neutral in his patients. It will depend on peoples physiology, what dose they are on and what other medications the person is using. You mentioned with Geodon and how it totally dominated your appetite. I can also see that happening with Lamotrigine which is used as an anticonvulsant or antiepileptic drug and is also approved for use in treatment of bipolar disorder. It can also be used as an anxiolytic for anxiety. Any way when I was on it 300mg with lamotrigine 200mg. I was basically eating my wife and I out of house and home, lool The best way to find out is through studies done and a lot of anecdotal evidence. Brief article: Does Lamictal Cause Weight Gain or Loss?
More in depth study- Effectiveness and Weight Effects of Open-Label Lamotrigine Imho diet, exercise, and lifestyle in general is the crucial part of losing or maintaining a persons weight. __________________ ~"There is a crack in everything.
