Hello all,

I am wondering if members have had personal experience using medical marijuana for mental health struggles.

I've been experimenting with marijuana since it has been legalized in Canada. I have to say, I have had nothing but good experiences. I have complex PTSD and I find it very helpful when I am triggered and hyper vigilant. Calms down the physiology like nothing else, helps with appetite, sleep, etc. Only thing it doesn't help with is motivation.... But that is a work in progress.

Thanks,
HD7970ghz

I'm in Canada too. Some pre-rolled pineapple express strain joints, sativa and indica weed gummies and THC tea came in the mail today.

I've been taking 5mg THC gummies every so often. I started with 2.5mg because 5mg was too much. Eventually I plan on taking 10mg a day and increasing the dose from there. Then I'll start taking puffs of the joints and then drink half of the 60mg THC tea.

THC gives me motivation and makes me want to exercise. There are some side effects like a little paranoia and anxiety but I'm training myself to enjoy it.

The first time I smoked weed, I was fishing on a lake and people offered me some. Well I took 3-4 long drags of the joint and sat back down in my chair. Everything became colourful and I started seeing 100 faces in the clouds. I zoned out and had a white out and didn't remember. I was just staring at the tent with my mouth open. My step dad wanted me to get something out of the truck so I went through the woods to where the truck was and had to come back like three times where my step dad had to write on my hand with a pen what he needed. I was just laughing and giggling like crazy. I couldn't remember what he wanted out of the truck when I got to the truck and didn't know how to open it or if I had the keys. Then when I got back, I layed down on the ground and there was thoughts circling around my head and popping up out of nowhere. Really weird thoughts. Then the next few days I was a little paranoid but I wasn't doing well that time because I was recently diagnosed with schizophrenia and just got out of the psych ward before I smoked the joint.

I've had about 30-40 more experiences with THC after that but I didn't understand what a weed high was. It felt like how I imagined huffing butane to be. I thought I was supposed to see colours and stuff like psychedelics. I had a THC vape pen and was walking down the street and just kept taking hits and then a panic attack came over me and my heart was beating fast and hard so I told my mom and she took me to the ER. It was over in a few hours and I was fine.

So I can't take too much THC or I panic because I developed panic disorder last year and my last panic attack was 3 months ago so the panic attacks just recently went away. I was immature about my drug dosing too and would always take too much of things. But now after having all these near death experiences, I'm more awakened, spiritual and mature to be very conservative with my weed and psychedelic dosages.

So marijuana has the ability to help you but you have to know who you are, what other people think about it, your environment like setting and time (Set), awareness and intuition of the chemical reactions. Because all we are is chemicals taking, inhaling and eating chemicals, floating around as chemical energy.

I hope your PTSD gets better. I wish you luck. I'm glad that the weed helps.

One thing I do know is that taking lower doses of weed rather than higher doses will help you with your motivation. If you want motivation, you need to be high - not stoned. And take Sativa rather than Indica for motivation.

Peace! =]

Can you smoke weed and also be on psych meds? I’m thinking of using it too once it’s legal.

I too have been considering this for chronic pain and mental health. My experiences with weed have not been good in the past because it was street stuff and it gave me racing heart and anxiety. I think if I could go to a dispensory and tell them what I want they would be able to recommend something that will help. I know I would qualify in NJ and they just changed the laws to allow any doctor to refer you to it but it seems like they do not know that. Plus there are no protections for employees. I am trying to get into subsituting and there is a drug screen. I had pain killers for my rotator cuff surgery but its not a healthy solution long term for me. Even with the opiate crisis I am amazed at how I could get oxycodone if I wanted but weed is like demonized.

I use it for both physical pain and mental health as well. During the day I stick to sativas so it doesn’t add to my lack of motivation and I some indica dominant hybrids at night to help me fall asleep.

I have found it incredibly helpful. I have noticed, however, that smoking oils and dabs do increase my anxiety so I stick to mainly flower. Or edibles.

I was using it, but now I find it pushing me closer to psychosis at times (bipolar). My doctor also strongly advices against it as I have bipolar and also while on psych meds. It is worth noting he can and does prescribe marijuana for pain. He is much more reluctant for mental health.

I use 5 mg Zydis (orally disintegrating Zyprexa) + 5 mg THC mints (also orally disintegrating - I take THC and Zyprexa Zydis together) + 1200 mg Gabapentin + 10 mg Melatonin for sleep and mood stability and it works very well.

i think there's promise in medical marijuana, the Tetrahydrocannabinol kind, at super small doses vaporized.
