Hi everyone ok first time posting here but I have a couple questions So I have been taking Seroquel (400 mg it was double cut in half about a year ago) and lithium (450 mg right now same thing it was cut in half a year ago) so I have taken these meds on and off since I was 13....it was on and off as I was doing a lot of drugs. however 10 years ago I got sober and stayed sober except being on methadone. so I have taken it stedilly for 10 years. However about 6 months ago I started developing major GI issues. basicly I throw up a lot! I cant eat! lost a ton of weight the past few months and I don't have much to loose anyway. so also I have started to get dizzy a lot kinda like when you stand up too quick but a lil more intense and sometimes even faint...I had thought this was due to the fact with my stomach the way it is and not eating/drinking a lot. however I recently went on a trip from home that had planned to be only 2 days and it ended up being a week...didn't have enough lithium with me or Seroquel...my sister had trazadone wich I have also taken in the past so I took that just to be able to sleep....now I noticed that the days I didn't take the Seroquel and lithium I wasn't dizzy or anything at all. so wanting to know if it was the lithium or the Seroquel after I got home and took them meds (oh and the 2nd day I started taking them the dizziness came back....so I did take it for a week then did a lil experiment fiorst went through 2 days without the lithium just the Seroquel the dizzy ness was there but not as bad...I took both for a few days ( I didn't want to go to long without taking both) so after a couple days I tried the other only taking the lithium and not the Seroquel for 2 days and had the same result (also had hard time sleeping but that was expected took some melatonin that helped.....but I had the same results dizzy but not as bad so I think they are both causeing the dizzy ness....I am SURE my stomach loosing weight not being able to eat ect is deffinitly playing apart cause I didn't have these side effects until recently when the stomach started to get worse....when I talk to my psych in a week and half I am going to tell him abut all this but I want to have my own info going into this meeting. so a few questions are …...Are there any substitutes for these meds I could take trazadone instead of Seroquel but what about the lithium....I was on Depakote in the past with bad experience it made me feel like I was doing heroin again I would be really sleepy and "nod out" a lot so that's outa the question....also because of my stomach issues I would like something that doesn't have such a impact on the body if I could find a natural thing that would help that would be best.....Also another note I don't think I need this powerfull of a drug not saying I don't have some bi polar issues BUT the diagnosis was made in the middle of a drug addiction now that I have been sober this long I feel I am a totally different person even when I didn't have them for that week I was fine as far as the manic depressive thing goes and also I have a lil depression not as bad in the past but I never get manic (even when I didn't have it for a week) and I used to get manic even when I was taking these meds in the past but like I said I think I am different after....even when I got clean and got on the meds the first 5 years I would still get manic after 5 years sober that changed it doesn't happen at all any more so I think my body/mind has changed signifigantly….I would like any opinions you guys may have.....I would also like to know IF discontinuing lithium and or Seroquel HOW long after stoping does the med continue to effect the brain......THANKS guys! OH and I KNOW I shouldn't stop taking these right away and I know I shouldn't have experimented by myself but there was no way I can get to the doc sooner and after the experience of NOT being dizzy and falling over when I didn't have it for a week I REALLY wanted to see if that was it and I am pritty sre it is

Hello dips99: I'm sorry I cannot advise you with regard to any of this. Perhaps there will be other PC members who will have some thoughts they can share. However I noticed this is your first post here on PC. So I thought I would at least welcome you to Psych Central. I hope you find PC to be of benefit.
