I started taking amitriptyline 25mg on Thursday. Saturday evening I felt better (warmer and calmer), and that feeling come back last night and today? Is this a placebo? I felt awful before and both Saturday & Sunday day tbh.

Hi, this was the first antidepressant I was put on in my early 20's. I also found an immediate effect although anything you read says it takes time to build up in the body. I found I slept very well, did you? I hope this medication works for you.

Wellbutrin worked relatively quickly for me. I don't remember exactly how many days it took.

Yep my sleep last night was great, and so is my mood today.
Having looked at this it could be because I'm taking lithium orotate alongside and lithium potentiates the effect of tricyclics. |

I hope this works for you. I've had both, I tried lithium on its own and it helped. You're right, the two would work together. I don't know if you know but you need to stay hydrated and I had very dry eyes, so make sure you keep your check-ups with the doctor!

Short answer: yes.
Long answer: no. Actually the longer answer is that doctors say they take weeks to have their full effect. So it could have an effect on you soon, it just will have more of an effect later. |

It seems the D/NRIs work fairly quickly as a group. SSRIs seem to take longer.
I have had the experience where I feel better quickly, which then "goes away" only to return long term after a period. |

Yep this seems to be a common thing
An effect with 2 to 5 days...which then returns in 2 to 5 weeks. |

People think meds take 6 weeks to do anything cuz that is the case with SSRIs. All meds are not in that category.
