Does anyone know if Statins makes depression worse? I just started a statin last Friday and Tuesday of this week my depression got really bad and I started getting suicidal thoughts. I'm also taking Fish oil with the statin. This is the only thing I've changed. Could this be the problem? Anyone know if it sorts itself out in a few weeks or does it just get worse? I don't think I could handle worse. I see my PDOC on the 19th.

SlumberKitty, I've taken statins for years and not noticed any association with depression. I suggest you call your doctor and report your increasing problems.

hi. the 'alternative health' people say that statins deplete coenzyme q10. they focus on obvious, physical complications of this...maybe it tilts the susceptible towards depression? i dunno.

I take CoQ10. I recommend it to any Statin taker. I don't know that it's associated with depression, but I guess it's possible.

Yes, statins make me depressed. My doctor says he's heard of this happening to others as well. I had to stop taking Crestor about a month ago but my cholesterol is quite high, so I'm not sure what to do now. You can Google statins and how they can impact your mood. They also make me very tired.

A large part of the brain is cholesterol. It is needed for the brain to work. What do you think happens when you take meds that stops cholesterol from being transported to your brain?
Also, taking a statin will deprive you of vitamin D so it has to be supplemented. Statins might save the heart but it ruins brain and muscle. Also it also statistically only works in men. __________________ |
