Hello everyone,

Does anyone have any experience with Vraylar? I'm wondering if you also experience bad brain fog, feeling lightheaded, and emotional blunting (would that be called flat affect)? Is this typical of antipsychotics or is this just Vraylar (I noticed this on Latuda as well).

I feel much better now that my pdoc has lowered the dose from 3 mg to 1.5 mg. However, I'm still having these side effects and it's driving me nuts! Help?

I have not tried Vraylar, no, but some antipsychotics do make you feel "flat"/"emotionless"/"blah." Zombie like. Seroquel did that to me.

I have flat affect and flat vocal tone according to my therapist, pdoc, and several psychologists. Flat affect is when you don't display your emotions well or at all. It's different than not feeling anything. For example, with my flat affect... You can say something that makes me feel sad/depressed and I will have a straight face. Alternatively, you can say something that makes me feel VERY excited and I will still have a straight face. It's not that I'm trying to hide my emotions. I literally have issues expressing my emotions through my face. I just don't do a good job of showing my reaction to things, even though I VERY MUCH feel emotions.

I wouldn't say I have a resting b_tch face where I look angry all the time. I literally just have 0 emotion showing on my face... a blank stare, if you will. I've always been like this. In fact, my therapist says she has no idea how to gauge my emotions because I show nothing. She has a hard time reading me.

Thank you for sharing!

I would say then that my emotions are blunted. I can express them, but they feel blocked a bit (especially when I want to cry). I also feel like my head is floating because the brain fog is so bad. I was on an antipsychotic in the past where I had flat affect. However, with Vraylar it's an almost constant brain fog. This makes it really difficult to think.

IMO, if you feel you can’t function on Vraylar because of the brain fog etc., then it’s worth looking into other options for antipsychotics. No one should have to settle for feeling “blah” or having immense brain fog.

I know from experience that most APs do cause some level of brain fog, but some are worse than others. I’m on rexulti and it does not cause much brain fog for me, but of course everyone is different.

I did well with vraylar, I was very tired on it for the first month or so but that went away eventually. I take different meds now though due to insurance purposes

Thank you! Yes, I've decided that I'll ask my pdoc for something else. The way I've been feeling is too miserable. Hopefully something else will work better for me.
