Hello,

I've been having a bunch of panic attacks this week out if the blue again, my dr prescribed bupropion hcl xl 150mg for me to take and I want to know if it will work for me? I'm very sceptical about taking meds.. thinking about taking the meds gives me anxiety.. ( I know I'm contradicting myself because I took this medicine last year and stopped because I thought I didnt need it anymore, it took me a lot of willpower to take ) also, last year I was depressed and having panic attacks/anxiety

If I take one will it remove the feelings of anxiety immediately? Does it take a long time to kick in ? And should I take it at night or in the morning ?

Thank you.

Well not many meds are going to work with the first dose unless it’s a benzodiazepines.

Everyone responds differently so hopefully it will help you sooner rather than later.

Your Pdoc should have advised you when to take the medication, morning mid day or night, bedtime... it “ should” say on the prescription bottle, if it doesn’t contact your doctor for directions , since it’s the weekend you can also contact your pharmacist they often know how most meds are prescribed.

Until the Med starts working what coping skills are using ? Distractions?

Hope you find relief soon

Thank you for your response, it says "take once per day by mouth" I think I'll take it in the morning and see how it goes. As for coping and distractions I guess I'll just go to work and focus on my job, after tomorrow night I have sunday to tuesday off. As for being home, I guess I could throw on a video game or sleep. I havent thought of that yet !

I take 300 mg of Bupropion in the morning. I found it has helped with anxiety. When I cut back on it, my anxiety got worse. The thing about anti-depressants is that if they're working right you're not that depressed anymore. And then you might think you don't need them. But they're the reason you're not depressed, so you need to keep taking them.

That said, it will not work instantly, but I hope it starts to work soon.

hi. wellbutrin is one of the more stimulating antidepressants. chemically, its closely related I think to Tenuate, a milder diet pill that was kinda popular, back when diet pills were socially acceptable. Anyway...

its not 1st line for anxiety, and it can make anxiety worse, but...some people actually do better on wellbutrin or stimulants, even with anxiety, than on the more standard treatments (ssri drugs such as Zoloft, for instance, or benzodiazepines, such as Ativan or Klonopin or Xanax). which leads to the next, rather depressing point...

although psych drugs do help lots of people, there are no blood tests, brain scans, etc. that can confirm or negate any diagnosis. true story. if a brain scan (just as an example) shows brain problems, the usual move is to refer the person/patient to a neurologist. which leads to another sad fact (yes, its me; Debbie Downer)...

even with the 'best' and/or most 'well-regarded' psychiatrists, hospitals, etc., psychopharmacology is...something of a guessing game.

so, bupropion may prove to be great for you, even though it can exacerbate anxiety in some people. Or you might do better with an ssri drug. Or maybe an ssri drug added to bupropion (lexapro+wellbutrin was a fairly common combination, for a while).

It's my second night on bupropion, I was having pretty intense anxiety for the last hour or so, but it didnt develop into a panic attack so im thankful for that. The anxiety comes and goes... i'm at a 2 right now... 2 out of 10. ... before I was about a 7.
I wish 2 weeks would fly by to see if this medicine works!

ugh!!!

I hope you don't give up if this one does not work out. It works as an anti anxiety pill for very few people. I actually don't understand how your doctor even came to the conclusion it was a good start. Here they usually try Buspar or something like that.

At first Wellbutrin gave me more anxiety being that it is a very activating anti depressant. After time though my over all anxiety went down and is still down to this day. So for me wellbutriin worked for the anxiety. But as others have said it is not first line for treatment of anxiety.
