Not sure what you've been prescribed it for. If it's for psychosis, I can't comment. But I take it as an add on to my antidepressant to help with mood, and to help stop dissociation. It's one of my favourite meds. But I did start lactating when I first went on it. But that side effect went away.
Good luck with it.

It knocked out my psychosis which was great. It threw off my cycle and I began lactating. A few months later I developed anxiety. I had never had anxiety before and asked my doctor if the meds could be to blame. He took me off Risperdal and the anxiety disappeared.

I have been taking for about 2 years now. There is a threshold at 4.5 mg where you start to get more tremors and shaking. I had to back down once I got to that number and just take 4mg, it is strong stuff and it works really well for me.

I see you posted in the bipolar forum, so it sounds like you have bipolar? if so, have you seen the "bipolar treatments" subforum?

Lots of risperidone/risperdal experiences here:

Thought you might find that useful

I took it for a short period of time but it was changed over to invega sustenna which is a related med, an active metabolyte of risperidone. Since they're very similar what I experienced was a large amount of weight gain and it stopped my period. It was pretty helpful for several years but I had to get off it eventually for a few different reasons, mainly the weight gain and the begining of tardive dyskinesia, but I was on the max dose of the injection and got it at every 3 weeks instead of 4, so that may be why I had more problems.

I noticed someone posted about anxiety with Risperdal. I've been having it horribly lately and didn't realize maybe the Rispiridone can do that. So, I've been taking more of propranolol and that helped. The Rispiridone helps with irritability with me. I have been through menopause a long time ago so it doesn't effect my cycle because there is no cycle any more. Haven't been lactating either. Many years ago when I used to menstruate, though, I took it and I lactated and they took me off of it.

Not so sure I want to take risperdal any more.
