I have been weaning off my psych meds for 6 months. I have been on psych meds for 8 years. I have been on a bunch of meds. I have not decided if I am going to completely quit the meds or just lower them. I am just seeing how it goes.
I feel like psych meds have ruined my life. I honestly hate every psychaitrist that has treated me at this point. I cant work, go to school, or even groom myself because I just want to sleep all the time and have no motivation. I have had like 10 malpractice events with different Drs. One almost killed me. My medication regimen (before I began weaning off) was: 450mg Wellbutrin (Bupropion) XL for depression 15mg Remeron (Mitrazepine) for sleep 20mg Haldol (Haloperidol) split into 3 doses 300mg Lamictal (Lamotrigine) Mood Stabilizer 1200mg Lithium split into 2 doses Mood Stabilizer 200mg Zoloft (Sertraline) for depression What I am on now (after 6 months of weaning): 450mg Wellbutrin (Bupropion) XL 7.5mg Remeron (Mitrazepine) 1.25mg Haldol (Haloperidol). 1.25mg is not a typo. I take 1/4 of a 5mg Lamictal 225mg I have literally had no change in my mental state except for feeling happier. I feel like if the several diagnoses they gave me were true I would have been psychotic and manic by now. I honestly think I just had drug enduced psychosis from self medicating due to depression (8 years ago). I think being on tons or psych meds made me worse and unstable. I got out of an abusive long term relationship and suddenly im much better. That person would tell me im crazy, psycho, blah blah and kinda put it in my head. Also they used it to control me (discredited everying I said). So maybe I was just brainwashed. Also I dont need people telling me I need to be on meds for life or that I cannot wean off without Dr support. I check in with my GP and they are aware. I usually lower the dose then report to GP and say im fine or ask them if its ok to lower to a specific mg and they say fine. I wait quite some time between lowering doses. I have also been studying pharmecuitcals for 5 years and know a lot about these meds. I have not seen a psychaitrist in about 2 months but have a consultation soon. I am just going to use the psych to get scripts and advice pretty much (probably wont believe them though). They literally just want to put me on meds for every problem. Like one tried to put me on a blood pressure med for nightmares? Wtf. Another gave me adderall so I wasnt tired and muscle relaxers to sleep. So they basically had me taking uppers to wake up and downers to sleep. I can deal with a nightmare every now and then. I would rather have innsomnia then be sedated. I want to deal with life without meds. Its not right (the pharmecutical industry) and I feel like they are brainwashing paitents, nurses, and doctors. Anyways anyone have any idea why I am so tired all the time? Did the meds permantely fry my brain?Thats my main problem (exhahstion) and even adderall doesnt help unless I take at least 60mg in a dose. I have taken 400mg spread out in a day (24 hours) so I just dont take it because I was told its dangerous (my heart was racing though) and accused of attempted suicide by the doctor I told. Then they tried to admit me to a hospital. Im considering getting a sleep test.. I drink about 10 cups of coffee a day or take a few grams of guarana seed powder. I sometimes consume a ton a caffeine and have been really sick before from taking 10 caffeine pills. On days I dont drink coffee I sleep the day away. What med could it be? Will I be less tired if I quit remeron or haldol maybe? Also anyone with success stories of getting off meds? Anyone have major issues with sleeping all the time? |

I can't tell you exactly the answer you may be looking for. However, I can share some of my experience.
It might be helpful to stop ingesting so much caffeine if you want to sleep. At least for now. I mean, maybe later once your sleep has balanced out, you can start with a modest amount of caffeine again, but have you considered that might be what's throwing your system out of balance? My experience has been that meds have screwed me up. Also Remeron (I don't know about Haldol) is notorious for making people tired. Also, be careful with stopping some of those meds outright (I know you haven't suggested that you want to do that), because doing that can increase seizure risk, I think. Obviously, discuss this with your doc. I am also currently trying to lower some of my medications, and it is a stupid thing that pharmaceutical companies have basically gotten me addicted to these pills, you know... I just worry about the long-term costs of being on these meds. My monthly expenses would be so much lower if I didn't take them. Not to mention what they may be doing to my body and mind. |

It's hard to say. Maybe a pharmacist could give you an idea about how long the side effects will last.
