Hello all. I had my first manic episode this spring, which has been followed by severe, soul-crushing depression for 4 months now. I'm taking Seroquel IR 300mg, Lexapro 10mg, and Klonipin .5mg as needed. I've tried Lamictal up to 200mg, and it was zero help for my depression. I have an appointment coming up with my NP and considering asking to go on Lithium. Any advice? Did Lithium help anyone during a major depressive episode? Thanks

Well Lithium was the gold standard first medication made solely for Bipolar.

It’s a great med for many people.

You do have to increase your fluid intake a lot, there’s frequent blood work especially in the beginning to find out when you hit therapeutic levels

There can be serious side effects. It can cause kidney problems and long term damage if you were to go toxic and it also can stop your thyroid function which would require daily medication the rest of your life.

Do research and talk openly about it with your Pdoc. Weight the pros and then the possible cons.

Your Lamictal is a pretty low dose most Doctors will go at least 350 to 400 to combat depression.

Good luck

Edit ... I notice your on Lexapro , that can sometimes be an activating Med and increase chances of manic episodes, I know personally I can’t take that with out going manic.
