Thanks, split image and bethrags. The discomfort was short-lived (only 3 days), and it was manageable with those OTC medications.

I'm now completely off the Effexor, and onto Lexapro. The headaches have stopped (Yay!!), and physically, I feel pretty great, all in all. However, I'm now having a bit if a downward emotional slide.

I do not know if the last 2 days of feeling this way are due to the changeover, or just my normal cycle of depression---but I'll do one or two more updates, I'm sure. The pattern should be clear in a few days.

Thanks. You're all very kind people!

O-K. I'm done completely , and have been for 2 weeks, with all the Effexor in my system.

It's just been Lexapro, and I'm doing well.

It took almost until this week for digestive upset to iron itself out---but I'm feeling much better, and things are fine. I had to be a little mindful of what I ate, how much (small portions! )and when. I took Immodium before meals for about 3 days, and that helped a great deal, too. Also, now, there are no more headaches, no more strange body aches (they were fleeting, and manageable with Tylenol), and overall, I'm clearer and much closer to my old self, already.

Now I just have to do the rest of the six weeks, and see where things are after that. That will be interesting, because it's when my mood usually does a full drop after the Holidays, and the Winter blues seem to really kick-in! I'll perhaps do one more update around then.

My conclusion after all this is that getting off of Effexor, even after a very extended time being on it, is do-able, and does not leave you helpless and limp in a corner. DON'T let the scary oogie-boogie talk keep you from changing your meds, if you feel you need to.

Huggs, and thanks to all who checked in!

Hey MG, Thank you for your follow-up, and for sharing your hard-won wisdom. I appreciate when others let everyone know how their original situation is progressing.

When you feel like it, let me/us know how you're doing now.

Hey, anybody that still wonders how all this went---!

I had to taper off and stop the Lexapro/Escitalopram. It was giving me terrible brain zaps and profoundly worsening digestive upsets. It did not like me very much.

I gave it all the time I could---right through late Winter, Spring, and almost all of the Summer. But I had had enough. So I tapered myself down, and am currently not taking anything.

I feel so much better. But I have yet to talk to GP about all of this. (I found she wasn't being very responsive about it, so I left her out of the loop.)

hahaha, as with everything, wish me luck!!!
