I was feeling very agitated on 225mg effexor. I have tried and cycled through most meds and decided to go back to pristiq which helped a lot.. but is expensive.
Doc wanted to add vyvanse as well, it did the trick!! I felt great, no more anxiety or anger. When the pristiq came in, I switched but am feeling horrible side effects now! Muscle pain, nausea, tiredness and funny vision/vertigo. I took 37.5mg of effexor on day 2 of pristiq and the pain went away... so I'm sure its withdrawal.
Pharmacist said I could add 75mg effexor to 100mg pristiq, then slowly taper the remaining effexor until I'm done with it. But then he said to watch out for serotonin syndrome and didnt seem so sure himself it just doesnt seem safe?? The doctor said that I should feel nothing from the switch... so he obviously doesnt have a clue.

Should I just stay on effexor and use the vyvanse to keep the anger and agitation at bay? Or is that a bad idea because the effexor didnt work in the first place?
I'm so confused!!

Any advice??

Your doctor doesn't know about about withdrawal from Effexor? Are you kidding?

How long between being on 225 mg to being on 37.5 mg?

This is definitely a question for your doctor, dear fellow sufferer. There's too much at stake to be playing pharmacist on your own.

It also seems there should have been a fairly lengthy taper-off period, coming down from that much Effexor. I'm in the middle of a med change and the entire weaning-off period is a month, at least (with my other med being added-in, ever so gradually, at the same time.)

You should be doing this in a supervised fashion.

He said I shouldn't feel any adverse reaction from a straight switch 225mg effexor, to 100mg pristiq. Iv been on 225mg effexor for around a year now.
I did feel it not as bad as completely off effexor cold Turkey to nothing.. but still hit with everything but the zaps.

I completely agree. The doc seems to think I could straight switch without withdrawals since the 2 meds are so alike. (I did this from pristiq to effexor, no issues) That didn't happen.. I have an appointment next week about it.
The pharmacist has been helpful when I called after I felt the withdrawal. said 100mg pristiq wasn't of equal dose and to add 75mg on top of the pristiq, and half that each week until I'm only on pristiq.

It has blown my mind that they have no idea.
I couldnt take anymore and went back to effexor 225mg plus the vyvanse. It's fine with the vyvanse.. so may say screw the switch until I have less responsibility next year ... FML
