I'm on Seroquel, lithium and Lamictal. I've been on Seroquel and Lamictal steady for a few years, lithium off and on even longer.
Do these medications, or others in the same classes, have known effects on the thyroid? Specifically causing growths or cysts? |

Hello Moira: I am not able to answer your questions. I'm neither a psychiatric nor a medical professional. Plus we here on PC are not able to offer either mental health or medical advice. (It is possible other PC members may have had some relevant experiences they can share.) However I noticed this is your first post. So I thought I would at least welcome you to Psych Central. I hope you find PC to be of benefit.

Well lithium can ruin your Thyroids ability to work and you could need to take thyroid meds for life.

I'm not a med pro. Let me state that, first.
But there is some conjecture as to a link between thyroid problems and several kinds of depression, to begin with---no medications need be brought into the equation. It's something that I hope some smart researcher is looking at, somewhere. SO many people with depressive disorders also suffer from thyroid (and possibly other) endocrine issues. This does not mean, however that meds don't figure into the mix. They very well might, considering the enormous potential they have for other, unpleasant, side effects. The answers you seek probably exist somewhere between the pages of hard-to read medical and pharmalogical abstracts, or JAMA. (((big huggs))) |
