I previously took 60mg Prozac, 1500mg Depakote and 40mg propranolol up to 3 times a day (as well as Iron tablets Ferrous Fumarate). The side effects from Depakote became too much to deal with so I asked my psychiatrist for a switch. He prescribed Lamotrigine in place of Depakote. I’m currently on 60mg Prozac, 100mg Lamotrigine and propranolol. I feel it is helping, but not as much as the Depakote was. My GP has put me down to be discussed at the next HUB meeting at the beginning of December. I’m hoping he just suggests a slight increase as I don’t want to switch again and I know there is plenty of room for adjustment in dosage.

Also, I’ve been getting migraines and have found out that propranolol is sometimes used as a preventative so I might start taking it regularly rather than as needed to see if that helps.

One final question, does anyone suffer with nightmares from Lamotrigine or even extremely long menstruation?!

Just be careful if you start playing with the beta-blocker, as it can lower both heart rate and blood pressure and cause conductivity issues with the electrical system in your heart. Be cautious.

You are on a quite low dose of Lamictal. I was on 400 mg when I took it. Maybe your doc can think about pushing that up a bit. Don't do it yourself, Lamictal can be very dangerous if it is raised quickly.

Have you ever been on lithium? It has been a miracle drug for me. You might want to just read about it and see. It could potentially help.

My psychiatrist offered me lithium but I wanted to try Lamotrigine first because I felt the side effect profile was slightly better. I’d rather increase something first than add something else, so we’ll see what the psychiatrist suggests next month. As for the propranolol, I am very mindful of watching it doesn’t affect my heart rate too much. I tend to wear a Fitbit more religiously when I do take it so I can keep a closer eye. Thanks for your advice
