I shared a couple of months ago that my psychiatrist of 20 years was retiring and I was devastated. She stopped seeing patients at the end of September and is keeping her office open for scripts and info until November 30. Aside from the positive relationship my family has with her, my situation when it comes to meds and such is a little unusual. I was so worried that I would go to someone and have everything changed or that the new doctor would decide that my adderall was no longer necessary. I have been stable for a good 10 years and prior to that it was hell for my family and me. She gave me a thorough list of doctors to check out. What I decided to do, and I am glad I did, was talk to our family therapist. She knows my situation is unique. What she did for me was take my list and discuss which doctors were recommended by her associates for someone like me. She was actually kind enough to reorganize my list and include which doctors carried my insurance.

I chose a doctor, ironically in the same office park as my old doctor. Actually right around the corner. I had my appointment yesterday. She went over my history starting with the very first time I saw my old doctor years ago, talk about memory lane. Then she shared what my old doctor had written about me. My old doctor assured me that she was going to make it clear that nothing should change and emphasize my stability. But you never know. I have gone to plenty of doctors who refuse to listen to what previous doctors have said or decide to make their own changes for no reason. (personally I think when that happens its about their egos)

She agreed 100% with my old doctor. We went over my meds and schedule. In fact, my adderall was due on Saturday but my old doctor's office was mailing it to me and I hadn't gotten it yet. She wrote me a script and said I should mail the one my old doctor sent when I get it. My old doc was also old school, everything was done by hand and phone. Nothing could be sent electronically by her office and I also had to go monthly to pick up my adderall script.

Not only is this doctor nice and gentle but she doesnt need to see me every month even though I am new. And she is in the 21st century and sends things electronically. She is allowing me to come every three months just like regular med management when I thought I had to go monthly because I was new. And she is giving me three months of scripts. She wrote out the adderall with "do not fill until..." and I gave them to the pharmacy. The only thing I have to look out for is my old doc would give me a 4 day window for filling it in case the pharmacy had to order it. The new doctor has written them on the exact day so since I use a mom and pop pharmacy I need to get to the calendar and make sure those dates are not on a Sunday when they are closed. It also means there's no room for error. I usually drop 2 or 3 pills of all my meds just about every month-I joke that if I ever rip out my countertop/back splash I'll have a pharmacy- so I need to be really careful and try and build up a reserve. The whole process was....seamless.

Anyway I just wanted to share because so often people are not as fortunate as I was and its hell even getting an appointment aside from actually getting a good doctor.

Once I heard her say "no changes" I had such relief wash over me, I was instantly in a better mood.

I just wanted to share with you guys.

That's wonderful. I'm glad you found a good psychiatrist who you can work with. She sounds great.

Fantastic news!!!!!!

When my husband and I decided to move to Florida for a year I was in panic mode about my meds. I take Xanax and some doctors are getting twitchy about benzodiazepines

I got lucky myself !!! she was a great Pdoc she had no problem with my meds and follow up in 3 months. “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it “ approach.

I’m so happy that you have found a great Pdoc
