I have just moved to the UK, and found out that Wellbutrin is not licensed for Depression (Well, Bipolar in my case).
So I won't be able to get any more medication once mine has run out.

Am I correct in saying that there is no other drug in this class of anti-depressants?

Has anyone got an idea of an alternative I can try????

I have not been on SSRI's for years.... so I can't tell if they work.
I do sometimes suffer from suicidal thoughts, really bad depression, so I would like to try something that you can recommend to help me feel better. I also take Lamotrigine to assist with managing my bipolar.

Bummer. Sorry. Yeah, totally different drugs over there. DIfferent world, really.

There is no Wellbutrin clone. Some people say Prozac at highish doses can be activating, like Wellbutrin. Other people have occasionally found Cymbalta to do that--I, personally, did when I was on it.

I suffer from something I term chronic central fatigue, which, to me, is overwhelming chronic fatigue/exhaustion related to my bp 1. I have had it for 15 years at least. Wellbutrin helps, but I am on antipsychotics that also cause alot of tiredness. SO, a few years ago, we tried Adderall. It helped enormously, but I had some cardiac side effects, so we had to stop it. We started Provigil (modafinil) in its place and it has been way better than the Addrall. It has transformed my life. Might check it out.

So, you may over there be looking at a combo of things to get you wher you want to be. Try to find a not way older psychiatrist, if possible. Not age-discriminating, but I do believe that more recently trained psychiatrists are somewhat more aware of these other, newer approaches than some of their more refined, but wise colleagues.

Good luck!!

Thanks so much for sharing! I tried Provigil because I was always exhausted and found it to be a super drug! Just became too expensive when I had to pay out of pocket and it was highly scheduled.
I think I may need to go back to trying the SSRI's and hope something will work. It is a pity that Wellbutrin is not registered here, for depression anyway, as they do prescribe it for smoke cessation.
I will probably be lucky to even be assigned a psychiatrist at all, without being able to be too picky about what age they are.
Ultimately, my depression is debilitating. It needs to change. I am happy to try any anti-depressant without fear that it may cause mania, as I have never experienced full blown mania anyway, so it is a risk I am more than willing to take, as long as the depression goes away.
And the brain fog needs to go away - I struggle to listen to simple conversations
