I am bipolar 2 and have been prescribed Remeron for anxiety. I have heard horror stories about weight gain on this med. Also, does anyone have experience with being bipolar and being on it?

Hi, Of course I can only tell you about my own experience. I gained weight on Remeron (but I gain weight on every psych med except benzos). It didn't help me in any way.

I hope you have better luck with it.

It's known as one med that can really cause weight gain. I ballooned over night on it while taking it for bipolar.

I was prescribed it as a sleep aid it never really worked for me. I don't recall putting on any weight while I was on it.

I am on Remeron now, for non-bipolar concerns. It has not caused a great deal of weight gain. It has definitely helped my depression and anxiety.

I want to say that it causes weight gain in 30% of people or something like that. The person won't know until they try it. But it sure worked fast in me!

I was able to get the weight off once I stopped taking it.

It's a werid med that the higher the dose the less the weight gain. At 60 mg I didn't gain anything; at 15 I did. I really liked it both before I was diagnosed with bipolar and after; I had to stop for some weird side effect I no longer remember but I honestly think that for me (and me alone) it may have had some mood stabilization properties before I was diagnosed properly. It was a good mood for me.

I wanted to eat my couch I didnt stay on it long.. The only 2 psych meds that have truly been weight neutral for me was Haldol and Invega.
