Yes I'm on Rexulti. It made me gain a lot of weight. No I haven't lost the weight that I've gained. I'm still on Rexulti though.

Yes, I have been on several AP's.
The worst weight-gainer for me was Seroquel. I started out weighing 110lbs and, seven years later, weighed 250lbs. I never, never should have agreed to stay on that awful medication - which was never helpful, anyway. As soon as I stopped taking Seroquel I lost weight. 16lbs in 16 days. And I wasn't trying to lose weight; I just stopped feeling insanely hungry, so wasn't eating large portions, etc. Then my pdoc prescribed Trilafon, which is amazingly helpful for me. Unfortunately, I'm sure I've gained the 16lbs back - and maybe more. At this point, however, I'm staying on the Trilafon because it truly is helpful for me. __________________ |

I was 104 pounds when I was on psych meds. Then I went up to 236 pounds because of them. I lost about 90 pounds after getting off all the ones that caused weight gain.
I have gained 32 pounds of that back but I am now on Wellbutrin which is causing weight loss and I am starting to lose that 32 pounds. I’ve lost about 10 pounds of it so far. __________________ Ridin' with Biden |

Seroquel caused me to gain over 100 pounds. I went on and off it for 4 years because of the weight gain but it is the only medicine that seems to work for me so I am back on it reluctantly.

I knew someone who had anorexia and had an underweight BMI and went on Risperadal and literally in just a month got an obese BMI.
Do your homework before going on any med. My doctor wanted to put me on Lexapro and I said no and asked for Wellbutrin instead. __________________ Ridin' with Biden |

I'm on both Risperidone and Seroquel and haven't gained weight with either of them.
And it is possible to lose weight when on psych meds. I'm on 6 different psych meds and through diet, have managed to lose 30 lbs and I'm still working on losing more. But I know they can definitely affect appetite - when I started Valium, the most recent addition, I was seriously craving food, so it was really hard. But I stuck with my diet, and didn't gain. splitimage |

I hear Zyprexa is the worst for weight gain but I haven't taken it. I've gained quite a bit of weight on Seroquel though.

Latuda is supposed to be weight neutral but I gained 100 on it. Still on it. Been on other APs and as soon as I went off of them I lost the weight without trying. It's caused me to have metabolic syndrome. I've had that before on other psych meds, when I go off the meds I lose the writ and my metabolism goes back to normal. But I can't stay stable off meds. So, catch 22!

Seroquel caused a lot of weight gain but this was also before I had gastric bypass. I was metabolically changed by it. Many people think WLS is only to control hunger but the procedure I had in 07 actually changed my metabolism and the way I absorb food so it helped me a lot. I had to go back on them for the BP and was terrified but my doctor told me that Geodon was pretty weight neutral. I can say that has been the case for me. I have been on it like 13 years and have fluctuated with 20lbs back and forth which I think is normal after 13 years, and I need to exercise more for sure.

Latuda - over 20 pounds, only took a few months to put on the weight. I’m on metformin, Wellbutrin, and naltrexone in order to stop from gaining anymore. It sucks.

Doctor increased my Geodon by 20 milligrams and I’m having a tough time keeping my appetite in control. It’s working well so I’m trying to control it.

Gained weight with Abilify (no longer on it). I'd say 50 lbs.

I've gained 40lbs total in the last 14 years. I've been on Seroquil, Zyprexa, and Abilify at different times.

I was put on Zyprexa at 18 and put on a few stones of weight. Switched to Quetiapine at 21. I'd lost some of the weight but the quetiapine started to affect the way my thyroid works. There is nothing structurally wrong with my thyroid, but the quetiapine slows it down. So I take thyroxine. After ten years on quetiapine that happened. I am a size 14 (UK) so I'm OK. I will admit I drunk a lot in my 20's. Not so much now in 30's.
Lithium is usually the worst culprit for thyroid problems. I took lithium for a few months and it works. But came off it to increase mirtazapine and venlafaxine(now sertraline) instead. I used to only need one pill. Gradually had others added over the years. Risperidone didn't work for me. So geodon etc. would do nothing for me. |
