My provider told me very honestly that people tend to gain 10-20lb on antidepressants. I don’t want to take them for this reason plus they make me tired.

Has anybody taken Lexapro for a significant period of time? Does it cause weight gain or fatigue?

I've taken Lexapro twice in my life. The first time was in 2010, and I was on it for a year. The second time was in 2016, and I was only on it for three months because it made my hair fall out. (Especially annoying since that apparently happens in less than 1% of cases. However, this was the generic version, so maybe another ingredient was the culprit? Who knows.)

Both times, I experienced fatigue that gradually went away as my body adjusted. I did gain weight the first time, but that may have been because my appetite returned, as opposed to a direct side effect of the medication.

That said, I've also heard from many people who didn't experience any noticeable side effects on Lexapro. Prescribers will usually start you at a lower dose and step it up later if needed, which is a good way to gauge your body's tolerance. It improved my mood to the point that I'd still recommend trying it, if you opt to go that route.

Hugs and best wishes.

I immediately told my doctor no when he tried to put me on it in April because I have heard that it’s one of the worst for weight gain.
