Is there a medication that can be taken on the spot for when you get obsessive thoughts that won't stop? Something that won't knock you out like xanax?

I found Valium to be less sedating than Xanax but it can build up in your system because of its half life. I’ve stopped the Valium now because I don’t want to be on it anymore due to memory issues but it worked for me in situations like you describe. __________________ "I carried a watermelon?" It's interesting that my doctor has never put me on valium. But it sure is popular.

And there are some other medications like hydroxyzine that can be prescribed PRN that work for some people. Not everyone, but some.
