Hi,
I need to stop thinking of throwing out my medication and of stopping taking it. Is there anything you people have found that helps with this? I know the medication helps me. This makes it even more frustrating when I throw it out or stop taking it for a night. It never lasts more than a day, but my psychiatrist is always super fed up with me when I do this. He has even threatened to stop being my psychiatrist. I understand why. I need to stop doing this. It's just really hard to resist in the moment. __________________ "Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it!” |

Have you shared with your psychiatrist what causes you to stop taking the meds? Is there a side effect that you don't like, don't like the way you feel, don't understand the purpose??
Getting down to the bottom of why you throw out the meds or/and stop taking it would be helpful in a statagy plan. Meds are not the only solution. THere are many ways of treating mental illness. Don't forget to use other tools. |

I basically haven't liked the meds for many years now. Everyone in my circle tells me I need them. It's gotten to the point where my family basically guilts me into taking them again when I've stopped them abruptly before.
I don't particularly like the weight gain, I don't like the tremor I have, I don't like that they fog up my brain, I don't like that they're used as a unilateral strategy most of the time, I don't like having to rely on them, I don't like how much they cost, I don't like the stigma associated with taking them, I don't like having to justify their use to my friends and family... I don't like how they affect my spirituality, I don't like how they affect my creativity negatively, I don't like how they affect my emotional range negatively. And to make matters worse, my psychiatrist is an all-or-nothing kind of guy. He never agrees with me when I say I want to stop taking the meds. I absolutely hate it. __________________ "Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it!” |

Hmm, have you tried changing your diet to compliment med time. Like what time of day they are taken and if they are taken before, after or with meals. Maybe try to run steaks on how long you can be consistent with a certain method and then change it up. Record how and when they work best and if they are working at all. Maybe take a break from a normal routine and try something different.
