How long can/should I stay on Geodon before risking any long term side effects. Right now the drug works very well for me but I know I cant take it forever. Does anyone else have a long history with the drug and developed a side effect?

I’ve been on it for 13 years with no issue. It’s been a life saver and I’ve experienced basically no side effects.

Thanks for the responses. Looking for experiences. A decade or more Is a good track record. Long term use of any antipsychotic seems to come with side effects.

I took Geodon for a good solid year before my pharmacies price went up and I couldn't afford it any longer, so I had to find something else. It was one of the better AP's as far as side effects and effectiveness. It helped my unipolar depression a good bit, it was only three of the many AP's that helped my depression. I'd probably still be on it if the sliding scale pharamacy hadn't had issues with the price.

Geodon was definitely a good antipsychotic to be on. I would still be on it, but I did develop adverse side effects to it. I had an EKG done in July and had a long QT time, which can be caused by Geodon. Good news is that once I stopped taking it, my heart went back to normal.

It’s incredibly expensive though. At least for me. I’ve had to pay $80 just for a one month supply of the 80. I was on 60 and 80. 60 I think was about $30 a month. It’s the same price with GoodRX. I’m on 2 80’s a day now and a 3 month supply is $130. A 3 month supply of Xanax is free. Lol.

It is $15 with my insurance. I was worried about the long QT interval but I am also on a low dose - 80mg per day which does work well for me and decreases the heart risk.

I think that if Geodon works for you it's one of the safer AP's and would be a good one to stay on. I wish I would have had better luck with it; for me it caused major insomnia.
