The stimulant I am currently taking is working perfectly. But I noticed that my pulse rate is pretty high (consistently high) and probably has been for months. Now I am concerned I'll have to change things up some. I assume I'll have to lower the dosage as I would think any stimulant would do the same thing, correct me if I'm wrong about that. Regardless, for any of those that have had the same issue (high pulse rate), what did you do to solve that issue? I really hate to screw with the med b/c it's helping so much but the rate is too high, I have no choice.

aw, ninefly, I'm so sorry that's happening! It's so annoying to have something that helps that you can't take! I had a med that was the only one that helped as much as it did, but I can't take it because of the side effects. Do you have a doctor or someone you can ask before you change anything?

Did you pulse immediately become high starting with the first dose of medicine and remain high this whole time?

Even with fast heart rate your likely fine. It’s blood pressure i would pay a closer eye to. If you want an extra drug try guanfacine. Works great for adhd for some with very little side effects. I had such bad anxiety i stopped my adhd medication for a couple years. Sometimes your heart rate will be higher due to other reasons besides an infection Drink water get good sleep, your heart should be fine, your young. Make sure to do some light exercise with yogurt and nuts |

My pulse rate is pretty high - resting 99 bpm, but -my GP is ok with it, because the meds are helping, and my blood pressure is extremely low 90/60.
If your psych med is working for you, and you want to stay on it, you might want to ask for a drug to slow your heart rate - I forget the drug class name, but there are a bunch of meds that slow the parasympathetic nervous system, inlcuding heart rate. A lot of professional musicians take them to manage the physical symptoms of anxiety. My pdoc wanted me to try them, until he learned of my blood pressure. edit to add - the drug class I was thinking of is called Beta Blockers. If you want more info, search for them or Tacchycardia on the mayo clinic site. I find it really helpful. __________________ "I danced in the morning when the world was begun. I stopped my stimulant and then started taking it again and my heart rate was a little high (Slightly over 100bpm) so I stopped taking it.
My heart rate was still high (106bpm) so I was put on atenolol (A beta blocker) and it went down. I was then put back on a stimulant and it increased my heart rate a little and then I built tolerance and it went back down. Eventually I'll stop the beta blocker and continue taking the stimulant if possible. |
