I have been off my antipsychotics for around two weeks now, I decided to quit cold turkey and my symptoms have not returned, should I be relieved?
Thanks in advance x |

Relieved one less thing altering your body. It doesnt look like it altered your brain too much either because you didn’t withdraw. Good on you. I’ve been hooked on the stuff for years. Not neuroleptics, but amphetamine. It increases dopamine in two different parts of the brain. Over time that cause structural change in the brain’s messaging. All drugs have effects on the body. FDA cleared medication just means its ‘FDA cleared’

Did your doctor instruct you to do this?

It all depends on how long you have been taking them for. If you were taking them for a very short time then your body/brain will not notice a change. If you have been on them for a longer period then it will be different. The half life of a medication will mean that the effects of the medication will stay in your body for a week to ten days after you have actually stopped it.
If you have been taking anti'ps for a while then chances are your symptoms will return. Take care and maybe check in with your P'doc before you begin to feel unwell again. |

@Shana09 Were you diagnosed with bipolar which lead to the prescription of anti psychotics?
Or were you prescribed anti psychotics for sleep/anxiety. Are you still feeling okay? |

If you have been on edge since stopping the antipsychotics then you have some insight as to the benefits of stopping your meds.
