Hi All,
I have had MDD most of my adult life. Throw in Panic d/o and PTSD and I'm a mixed bag. The only antidepressants I've ever been on are Lexapro and Effexor XR. Recently d/t work duties and caring for a cranky elderly (92) relative I have fallen back into that black hole. My GP upped my Lorazepam to 1 mg 3xday if needed and switched me back to Effexor XR. What else is out there that is good for depression and anxiety? I am 59 years old, female and just trying to put one foot in front of the other to keep going. All responses appreciated. Thanks. Yak. |

Mdd is psychologically and biologically complex. It's not so much that one medicine is better than another, but what works best with your body. SSRI is the most common type of antidepressants and I think often treats depression and anxiety. I have both but my body doesn't like ssri medications so I'm on a combo of busiprone and deluxitone.
The best you can do is tell you doctor what does or doesn't seem to be working and keep trying medications. Are you in therapy as well? |

I take an SNRI called cymbalta. IMO and antecdotal experience SNRI's work better for bipolar.

Sorry to hear you are struggling. If you don't see some relief within a couple of weeks, contact your doctor and let him know. There are a ton of anti-depressants out there. I currently take Trintellix and Cymbalta daily. I also take an Anti-Psychotic. There's lots of medications that they can use to augment the depression meds.
