I was deflecting during a recent session and knowing my T had hip surgery in the past, I asked if he'd ever had any other surgeries.
His response? "Well, I had a vasectomy." I nearly fell out of my chair laughing as that was a very unexpected disclosure. |

The woman told me her computer had a virus that kept showing pornography on her home computer and that it was not even good pornography. I did not laugh but agreed bad porn was adding insult to injury.

[QUOTE=wotchermuggle;4455438]I was deflecting during a recent session and knowing my T had hip surgery in the past, I asked if he'd ever had any other surgeries.
His response? "Well, I had a vasectomy." That is hilarious! But you did ask! And it could of been worse! I've been looking for a new T since I have moved and on my 2nd visit with her and after my old T told her and me that self disclosure makes me uncomfortable, she said she had a terrible weekend because 3 clients were admitted to the hospital and she dealt with it by drinking a bottle of wine. Ps I didn't continue with her. __________________ “Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. That they wore a racy Halloween costume. It was unintentional I'm sure and very out of character. Funny I guess!

I guess it wasn't really weird or random, but I so giggled, because I could so SEE her saying it.... I had mentioned to her when my son got his permit and how I would not be the one to teach him parallel parking cuz I can't do it to save my life. She related the story when she was learning how to drive the instructor was trying to teach her how to parallel park and she said "Can't I just FEEL my way?" That is SO what I would expect her to say. LOL

We were discussing an insurance issue and he pulled a manila folder out of his briefcase - maybe an inch thick - and looked at something...so I asked "Is that my folder" and, without even thinking, he said, "well, one of them".

In one of the two individual sessions I had with my marriage counselor, he told a somewhat lengthy story about this woman that he had feelings for in grad school, and they sort of got together for a bit, then split up, though he still had feelings for her. And they stayed friends, and later when she was dating this other guy, they were talking about it, and he (MC) said it was like they were dealing with their feelings for each other by talking about her and the other guy. I know the story was intended to relate to me and my situation in some way, but all I could think was, "Well, that was a nice little story. But which person am I supposed to be in that?" Kind of wish I'd actually asked it at the time...

Yes, he's come up with some pretty randome stuff but I think he's trying to make an analogy that I can understand.

I can't think of anything too weird, but random, yes. When I went to go visit an old T, she spent a good 30 minutes excitedly explaining an online game she was playing. She then showed off the really, really awesome treehouse her and her husband built in their backyard (like, totally on-par with those amazing tree houses you find in "I would live in this tree house" articles you find on buzzfeed).
Other than that, no random or weird things I can think of. T's have answered my questions and offered anecdotes that related to therapy, but never with anything too weird or TMI, lol. |

He used a crockpot metaphor once that was kind of hilarious. It went something like this
T: what if someone gives you a crockpot, I mean, what do you do with a crockpot? Me: crockpots are awesome! You can make anything in a crockpot. Throw food at it and it turns it into dinner. I want potroast now. T: well... You know what to do with a crockpot. Eventually more and more people will give you crockpots. Me: nobody needs more than one crockpot. Maybe two at most. T: it's supposed to be a metaphor Me: I still want potroast. __________________ '... He was referring to interpersonal relationships and being able to accept what people give - knowing what to 'do' with it. He lost me at crockpot though. My mind went straight to 'dinner!'. There was some discussion in there about making grilled cheese in a crockpot too... __________________ '... She told me a story about when she was in college or high school or something and there was a coach who had really bad BO so her and the other students put lotion on their upper lip so they wouldn’t have to smell him.
