An interesting interview with Allan Schore based on his book "The science of the art of psychotherapy." It is long, but I like what he has to say...

From New Republic, an article about clinical experimental results on the use of propranolol as a treatment for PTSD and anxiety/phobia disorders--long after memories have consolidated. Trigger warning for a close up photo of a tarantula at the top of the article!

I saw that! Wish they'd also discussed the impact on childhood sort of trauma though (the book by van der Kolk that I'm reading for instance suggests that it differs from trauma experienced in adulthood in terms of responses to treatment etc).
But, figure the research is going in that direction.

(Largely a cultural critique) The Forced Heroism of the 'Survivor' (from the NYT).

ETA: References lots of stuff that would need trigger warnings.

I ran across this searching for information about termination, but it has some interesting stuff to say about working with transference.

Over drugging simply numbing out rather than actually a good idea.

"Health & Mental Health Therapists Race Class Bias"
http://www.cnn.com/2016/06/01/health...ref=rss_health

The study does not include the poor, Medicare/Medicaid client. These populations include our senior and disabled. The poor are routinely shunted to poorly staffed,
high staff turnover, inadequate county mental health systems- if they are accepted as clients at all. That is where real discrimination exists.

Here's another report on the same study: Not White, Not Rich, and Seeking Therapy.

I would note that the study is limited to those who specifically sought (much coveted) evening appointments in NYC - that's not mentioned in the CNN article and not stressed in the Atlantic article - but it may have a bearing on the results.
